EPISODE 20: GODZILLA VS. RED MOON!!
“There’s no question about it now.”
Ken said to his companions as they sat aboard the Mu transport. “Gojira is awake.”
“It’s been thirty years though.”
Lieutenant Joyce said. “Why now, after all this time?”
Ken looked over at the Mu
prisoners; specifically Tao. Luna sat with Ken and the others looking puzzled
for a moment.
“What exactly is this…Godzilla or
Gojira?” Luna asked. “I heard the name several times on the surface.”
“In 1954 the castle bravo test
irradiated an undiscovered prehistoric animal that was living in the island
archipelago around it.” Dakota explained. “The H-Bomb gave it extraordinary
capacities for survival and unique abilities. It came ashore and devastated
Tokyo. All weapons were powerless before it.”
“It wasn’t until a great scientist,
Dr. Serisawa used a new weapon called the oxygen destroyer, did Gojira finally
meet its end.” Dr Yamane added. “For many years we believed it was the only
one. Then in 1991 when the Futurian Incident happened, people from the 23rd
century travelled back to Lagos island hoping to erase Gojira from our history,
but instead found a second member of its species and teleported to an area of
the Bering Sea where it too became irradiated when a nuclear submarine crashed
into it in the 80s, making the second Gojira. This most recent generation, was
the offspring of that one.”
“It’s been lying dormant for the
last thirty years.” Ken said. “We hoped that its more peaceful nature, compared
to its predecessor, would keep it in a dormant state.” He looked at Tao once
again. “It would seem that your Red Moon has disturbed it from its slumber.”
Tao
looked away, unashamed.
“We
should probably remove that crown from her head.” Joyce said.
“That
would not be a good idea.” Luna said.
“Why’s
that?” Paul asked.
“Tao
doesn’t have full control over Red Moon.” Luna said. “However, that crown does
focus its attention. If we remove it, then the monster will go back to its
original motives… It will go wild and attempt to destroy everything with no
regards to life at all.”
“Talk
about the lessor of two evils.” Goro remarked.
Luna
looked at Tao, who continued to look away from the room; instead focusing her
attention to the window at the passing rock walls of the tunnel. Without making
it too obvious, Luna focused her telepathy and listened to the Empress’s
thoughts. Tao’s mind was still somewhat strained from the crown, but her
feelings of resentment and anger were still very prevalent.
“Do you
truly believe I don’t know what you’re doing?” Tao’s voice suddenly said in her
mind.
Luna
said back with her thoughts, “I’m only looking for some semblance of reason.”
“Feels
more like you’re searching for forgiveness.” Tao responded. “For your
information; there is none.”
“I stand
by what I did, your highness.” Luna said. “Once we reach the surface, you will
understand.”
Tao
looked back at Luna with a look of petty spitefulness for a moment. A second
later, Tao’s neck flexed, and her jaw clenched. The strain of the crown flared
up in intensity for a moment. Through her telepathy, Luna could sense that it
was caused by a flare of anger in Red Moon. The monster could sense there was a
new and powerful enemy to behold.
Back on
the surface, on the sandy atoll that she was shot down on, Mothra rested. Her
wings were torn in various places and different parts of her body were singed
as well from Red Moon’s inferno ball. Despite the state she was in, there was good
feeling of relief and comfort washing over her now that she had time to rest.
Suddenly a small sparkling orb appeared in the distance, fluttering about in
the wind but moving towards her. The small ball of light landed on the sand
before her and slowly dissipated to reveal the Shobijin.
The
small twin fairies stood looking gratefully up at Mothra, knowing full well she
had been through a lot and happy that she was alive. They bowed their heads in
a prayer like fashion and then slowly rose their heads knowingly back up to
their guardian.
They
started to sing…

Back at G-Force’s Headquarters,
while most of the rest of the staff and high-command were busy going about
their activities and duties, Miki sat at the command desk with General Kuroki
to her right.
Miki said to Sho. “Anata ga watashi
no kettei ni hantai shite iru kotow a shitte imasu.” (I know you disapprove of
my decision)
Kuroki replied, “Sore wa akirakadeshita
ka?” (Was it obvious?)
“Anata wa doi shinai kamo shiremasen.” (You
may not agree.) Miki responded. “Shikashi, sore wa tadashi sentakudeshita.”
(However, it was the right choice.) She then looked at Sho with a very direct
and knowing stare before continuing, “Sugu ni wakarimasu.” (You will see, soon
enough.)
“Tadashi ka machigatte iru ka” (Right or
wrong.) Kuroki said before returning the serious stare. “Anata no kodo wa
shinkokuna kekka o motarasudeshou.”(Your actions will have serious
consequences.)
“Red Moon’s nearing Okidaitojima!” A console
operator announced.
Barnes returned to his seat at the
Command desk and said, “The show’s about ready to kick off.”
“Have a surveillance drone be sent
out from the Okinawa unit to replace the raptor.” Major Aso ordered.
“Roger.” Another console operator
said.
Onboard the USS Saratoga, Admiral
Stanz, Colonel Hayashida, Akane and Bri watched the live feed from the bridge.
“Are the retrieval operations
underway for Kiryu?” Admiral Stanz asked.
“The retrieval crew will be here in ten
minutes.” Colonel Hayashida answered.
“Once Kiryu is back onboard, we’ll
move the fleet Northeast of the Philippines.” Stanz said.
“Super X-3 is being refitted and refueled,
so in the event we’re needed we can provide support.” Colonel Hayashida said.
“Ryokai.” Akane responded.
“Any idea on how soon Kiryu will be
ready for action again sir?” Bri asked.
“We won’t know until repair crews
can assess the damage.” Hayashida said.
“One mech down, one destroyed, and
one air ship badly damaged.” Admiral Stanz said. “Now all our hopes are pinned
on a monster we can’t be certain is friend or foe.”
Everyone watched the screen intently
as Red Moon circled the small triangular island that sat alone beneath the
starry sky. A single hill rested at the center of its mile wide area. Mostly
grass and shrubs covered its surface.
Red Moon then swooped down and landed at the
highest point of the hill. It sat patiently scanning the area, looking out to
see for any signs of its new foe. It could sense Junior was nearby but not its
exact location. All was calm. The only sound was the wind, the distant sound of
waves crashing against the island’s shores, and the low guttural growls of the
monster as it waited.
Just then, Red Moon’s head perked up and it
whipped its head to the east. An area of water, several miles off-shore, began
to bubble and churn. The foamy commotion began to light up with flashes of
bluish-white light. Shortly thereafter, the massive three rows of Junior’s
bone-colored back plates broke the surface. Like giant shark fins they
approached the island in a slight serpentine motion.
Watching the black and white infrared screen,
Bri’s eyes widened, and she said, “It’s really him.”
“Gojira da…” Akane said.
Junior’s upper torso slowly began to rise
from the sea. Water dripped from his snout and chin while his dark auburn eyes
glared menacingly up at Red Moon as it sat like a gargoyle on its perch. Once the
powerfully built upper part of his body was out of the water, Junior let out a monstrous
challenging roar to his opponent. Red Moon roared defiantly back with its wings
outstretched, releasing a few whisps of its heat energy in an intimidation
display.
From behind, Junior’s tail erupted from the
water and slammed back down. He threw his clawed hands out in a grappler-like
manner and roared a second time. Seeing that Junior was unimpressed by his
display, Red Moon took-off from the hill and swooped down towards him. The new
Godzilla readied himself to grapple with the monster but instead Red Moon began
firing a series of Inferno Balls down towards him. The area erupted with
explosions of steaming foam as the balls struck the water.
Junior dove underwater to avoid the blasts;
one of the balls rocketed right over him as he did. Though Red Moon lost sight
of its foe, the monster continued to blast the area with its Inferno Balls. The
whole area around where Junior dove in looked as though it was being pummeled
with artillery fire with columns of steam and explosions of foam erupting
everywhere with bright red flashes.
After a few seconds, Red Moon ceased its barrage
and swooped down low over the water to search for its enemy. As it banked
around, only about twenty meters about the waves, Junior suddenly erupted from
the water and grabbed it by its hind legs. Red Moon attempted to escape with a
few powerful flaps of its wings and by smacking Junior’s face with its tail,
but it could not break free. Junior then threw all of his weight back and
dragged Red Moon into the water.
Beneath the surf, the two monsters tussled
with each other, Junior threw Red Moon down into the sandy bottom and proceeded
to stomp on the monster’s ribcage several times. Red Moon attempted to spring up
from the floor to tackle him, but Junior swayed to the right and wacked it back
down to the bottom with his tail. The monster quickly sprang back up and
flapped its wings to make its way back to the surface, but Junior was hot on
its tail. He was able to grab it by one of the kind legs and pull it back down.
Running out of breath and desperate, Red Moon flailed for a few seconds before
managing to kick junior in the face with its free limb.
Junior released Red Moon and it made
a break for the surface. The monster erupted from the water and desperately
flapped its wings to get airborne again. To those watching it was a tense
moment as nobody could see what happened below the waves. The monster flew
around back to the island and landed to catch its breath. It then roared
menacingly out to the ocean. The waves churned once more in an area not far
from shore. Junior once again emerged and began moving to the beach once more.
Red moon, now knowing that Junior
had an advantage in the water waited with a growling maw for him to come on
land.
Back on board the Mu transport, Ken
suddenly sensing something announced, “Gojira and Red Moon are fighting.”
“You can sense it from down here?”
Paul asked.
“Sort of.” Ken said. “I can’t tell
specifically what’s happening, but it’s like hearing distant explosions only
its more like an explosion of intense mentalities.”
“The empress might be able to tell
what’s happening.” Luna suggested.
Everyone turned towards Tao who
looked begrudgingly at them for a few moments. Wanting to see what all the fuss
was about; Tao closed her eyes and focused. She had to try a little harder than
usual to get a good image of what Red Moon was seeing. Eventually a view came
to her mind, blurry and grey at first, but gradually she could see a landscape
leading down to a beach with Junior wading in water up to his waist towards the
shoreline.
Luna closed her eyes and began to
concentrate as well. She too could see Junior making a determined march to the
shore.
“We can see it.” Luna said.
“What’s happening?” Lieutenant Joyce
asked.
“There’s a monster approaching Red
Moon.” Luna said. “It’s saurian. But its different; massive… dark in color…
ferocious eyes… and its got large spines or plates protruding from hits back.”
“Gojira da…” Goro said.
“There’s something going on with Red
Moon though.” Luna said. “It’s… I don’t know, it’s like it’s a little… concerned.”
“As such it should be.” Lieutenant
Joyce laughed to himself slightly.
“Agreed, Gojira is not your average
kaiju.” Goro added.
Back on the island, Junior was
making his first steps into much shallower water that only came up to the tops
of his ankles. Red Moon suddenly fired another Inferno Ball, this time around
it hit junior directly in the in the chest. The ball erupted in a massive and
powerful explosion that stirred up some of the water. From its perspective, it
could see junior’s legs stumbling back and swaying from side to side, nearly
falling over.
Red Moon immediately charged forth with the
intent of pouncing of its foe. However, once the explosion dissipated, it was
revealed that Junior barely suffered any actual damage from the attack. The
monster continued to charge forth but suddenly stopped when it witnessed a
strange light emanating from his plates.
Junior’s dorsal plates emitted a bright series of blue flashes. He then opened his mouth, and before Red Moon could react, he exhaled a bright blue ray of energy; his species’ signature atomic heat ray! Junior’s heat ray struck Red Moon on the upper right side of its chest and across its shoulder and wing.
The monster was thrown back by the
power of the blast; leaving an explosion of sparks and whisps of flame in its wake.
Red Moon tumbled back a couple times, its
body scorched in the area where the heat ray struck. At the same time Tao
suddenly opened her eyes; gasping through her nose. Luna feeling what Tao felt,
opened her eyes as well in a surprised manner.
“What happened?” Lieutenant Joyce asked.
“Red Moon.” Luna said. “The other monster
fired some kind of beam at it and it, it actually was hurt by it.”
“Godzilla’s atomic breath.” Dakota remarked.
“It has the ability to fire a nuclear-powered
heat ray.” Ken explained.
Luna then said, “But it actually
hurt Red Moon. It’s been hurt superficially before but not like that. Heat rays
should not have that great of an effect on it.”
Back at headquarters, watching Red
Moon as it writhed for a few moments trying to recover from Junior’s attack,
Aso pointed out similarly, “Did you see that! Gojira’s heat ray actually
damaged it.”
“That’s weird though.” Barnes
remarked. “That thing emits energy powerful enough to torch a city. Would think
a heat ray wouldn’t be that effective.”
Akira, adjusting his glasses then
observed, “It must be because of the kind of energy that Gojira utilizes.”
“Nani?” Kuroki asked.
“Mosura and Kiryu,” Akira explained.
“They both utilize electrical plasma energy. Red Moon uses heat plasma like
that of super intense fire. Gojira, uses atomic energy.”
“So…?” Barnes asked.
“Plasma, much like solids, gases,
and liquids, have different elemental make-up. Just because they all generate
high temperatures and force outputs, does not mean that they are the same.”
“So Red Moon’s biology must react
negatively to Gojira’s atomic energy.” Miki said.
“Precisely.” Akira said. “Electrical
and heat energy have similar make-ups. That’s why Kiryu and Mosura’s attacks
only caused temporary superficial damage.”
“Nice to see that Godzilla has a
strategic advantage then.” Barnes said. “He could definitely win this one for
us.”
Kuroki glanced at the Master Chief
and considered reminding him that Junior was not fighting on their behalf. He
held back his comments and returned his focus to the screen.
Red Moon roared with a higher pitch.
The burns from Junior’s heat ray were not healing with the usual speed and the pain
was becoming agonizing. It looked furiously back at its foe to see his dorsal
plates lighting up for another heat ray. Not risking getting hit, the monster
fought through the pain and began running. It managed to get out of the way of
the second heat ray just in the nick of time.
Junior wasted no time and fired up
another heat ray. The bright blue beam followed Red Moon while it ran as fast
as it could to avoid the attack. The foliage and ground erupted in a series of
explosions in the wake of their chase. The monster was able to outrun the attack
and cleverly closed the distance by running diagonally towards Junior’s left.
As Junior’s attack subsided, Red Moon lunged
forth and attempted to tackle him to the ground. Though caught off guard,
Junior managed to catch the monster by holding his left arm out against its
chest and bracing himself. The new Godzilla thrust his other hand against Red
Moon’s chest and once it had a hold of the monster with both hands, proceeded
to swing it around and throw it.
Red Moon contorted itself like a true feline
and landed on its feet before springing back. This time Junior did not have
time to react and was taken down. The shallow water splashed violently as the
pair crashed into the waves. Once down, Red Moon tried to clamp down on
Junior’s neck, but he managed to thrust his arm up and get it lodged in the
monster’s mouth. Though it had hold of the wrong part, Red Moon proceeded to
clench its jaws down tight on Junior’s forearm and started whipping its head
back and forth.
Junior, in pain, started clawing at Red
Moon’s head with his free arm several times. His dorsal plates started to light
up once more. Seeing that another heat ray was coming, the monster pushed
Junior’s jaws upward with its right foreleg. Junior’s heat ray fired up and
away from his target as it continued to tear at his arm. His plates lit up once
again. Red Moon, confident that the heat ray was not a problem now, continued
to hold Junior’s face up and away while tearing ferociously at his arm.
Suddenly just as it looked like Junior’s heat
ray was about to fire, a ray of only blue light emanated from his mouth. His
chest then suddenly lit up with the same coloration, before a letting out a
shockwave of energy through air that was so powerful that it knocked the wind
out of Red Moon and propelled the monster backward several hundred yards before
it came crashing hard into the ground.
Once again, the New Godzilla had brought an
unbearable amount of pain to the Great Calamity that even Tao could feel
through her connection. The high command at G-Force HQ watched with wide eyes
and gawking mouths. The same was true for those watching from the Saratoga.
Red Moon got to its feet gasping for a few
seconds before looking back at its foe. Junior was getting back on his feet;
his glare angrily tight on the monster and his arm completely uninjured from
the mauling it received. As it took a few seconds for him to get up, Red Moon
saw its opportunity for a more devastating attack.
The air immediately around Red Moon began to
glow with a bright yellowish orange coloration. Wisps of flame began to flicker
about in the air. The Monster’s skin then began to glow as well. Junior got up
and could sense something big was about to happen.
Bri, seeing the glow, remembered she had seen
that light before, and said aloud, “No, get to cover. Get to cover!”
Instead of bracing himself, Junior instead
fired another heat ray at the monster. To everyone’s shock the heat ray did not
affect Red Moon in the flared-up state as the ray flickered off it. The monster
reared its jowls back in an angry and sinister growl. Its eyes then shifted
from a bright red glow to pure white. The wisps of flames around it intensified
before it suddenly reared back. The bright aura seemed to suck inward to the
monster’s body before it unleashed a massive explosion of flames that rapidly
expanded outward in a dome like shape. The eruption spread across the entire
island and was heading right for Junior.
“Junior!” Miki suddenly shouted as the screen
went blank with a bright light.
The light was so bright that it caused almost
everyone at HQ and onboard the Saratoga to look away. Onboard the Mu transport,
Luna watched Tao’s thoughts and suddenly opened her eyes when she realized the
kind of devastation Red Moon had just unleashed.
“What happened?” Ken asked.
“Red Moon…” Luna said. “I think it just
defeated Godzilla.”
“What?” Joyce, Goro, and Paul said
collectively.
“How?” Dakota asked.
“It unleashed some kind of explosive attack.”
Luna said “It engulfed the whole island they were fighting on.”
“An explosion?” Paul asked, in a shrug-like
tone. “No way.”
“Did you see Gojira fall?” Ken asked.
“No, but it got ingulfed by the flames.” Luna
said, just as Tao opened her eyes with a smug look. “There’s no way that
anything could have survived.”
“You’re underestimating Godzilla lady.” Paul said,
shaking his head.
“Yeah, you might want to look again.” The
Lieutenant said. “You’d be surprised what that thing can endure.”
Tao rolled her eyes and sighed before closing
her eyes to focus. Luna closed her eyes as well to read Tao’s mind again.
Through Red Moon’s eyes they could see it
floating down to the ground. The entire island was a burning smoldering mess of
scorched foliage, earth, and scattered blazes. The monster looked around at the
various fires hoping to see the charred remains of Junior’s body. It then
looked up at the last place it saw him. There was indeed another blazing fire,
but it appeared to be from foliage. Just as it was about to roar in triumph,
Junior’s roar suddenly broke the calm.
Tao gasped through her nose, Luna gawked, and
Red Moon got into a braced stance. The three of them watched in stunned silence
as Junior’s form materialized through the smoke of the burning patch of
foliage. Aside from a few scorched tips of his rough skin that were letting
small wisps of smoke into the air, he was unscathed by the eruption that Red
Moon had just unleashed.
Luna slowly opened her eyes and asked, “Dear
Manda… What is that monster?”
“That’s not just any monster.” Ken said.
“Over the years, the Gojira line has garnered such a formidable reputation that
some call them, the Kings of Monsters.”
The Lieutenant smirked and said as he leaned
his head back, “All hail the King.”
